hey. ive been hard at work in the code mines since my last post. the site has been Altered. heres whats up...

new pages

theres times in everyones life where it sucks and basically u just gotta post thru it. but what happens when u need to post thru it in a post-posting era? 2 new pages apparently. they're both wip but less wip than most of the rest of the site. the pages are:

synth

i've been working on building my own modular synth for almost 2 years now, mostly from scratch and with only the most absolute basic knowledge of electrical engineering¹. its been fun and i'd been enjoying documenting my progress on cohost, but since that was really the only place i ever wrote about any of it (other than the git repo) i wanted to get it up on here asap.

for now it's just an image map² with links to each module's page on the repo, but i'll be moving (porting?) my synth updates from cohost to here over the next couple months and linking to those instead. i havent decided if i'll do them as blog posts or as regular standalone pages yet but i'll figure it out when i get to it.

unfortunately the part of the page im most proud of doesn't actually work on mobile since u can't really hover elements without a cursor, so check it out on desktop imo :)

i was planning to get this done like immediately after i got the blog & rss feed working but i kept getting distracted adding more features to the post editor (mostly markdown support and post previews), and then i was too bummed out to go crawling thru the now-frozen cohost to find folks' buttons. but i powered thru the malaise and its "done" now.

i'll be adding more links as i work my way thru the list of where the folks i was following have moved/returned to but its pretty long (seriously its 1106 fuckin lines. crazy.) so it could take some time. there's also links to some other non-choster³ sites on there that i just think are cool and/or useful. hopefully no one minds me linking them⁴ but if so i put my email address on there so like. let me know if u don't wanna be linked. or if u do wanna be linked and i haven't linked u yet?

future plans

just realised i put "& future plans for the site" in the title so here's those. i think i'm gonna slow down a bit cos im Very Tired but im not gonna stop cos the site's still a mess. right now, the main things i can think of that need doing are:

• porting over the remaining stuff from the old site (mostly the kana app and the works pages)
• figuring out a good way to do images in blog posts. putting big pics on here would be a pain right now (gotta manually generate thumbnails, upload everything to the cloud thing i host big files on, then link stuff manually - not ideal!) so i wanna figure out something automated for that
• adding comments to the blog. no clue how i'm gonna do this in a way that doesn't involve forcing folks to create accounts yet but i'll figure it out. maybe it'll be some kind of email thing? we'll see...
• making the site more "responsive". sorry again to anyone attempting to use the site on mobile... its better now than it used to be at least? but it's still not great.
• general cleanup. i kinda wanna put the code up somewhere folks can see it but i also don't want people to see just how awful some of the code is rn. its scary in there....

there's also some minor tweaks i wanna make like making longer text sections easier to read (ideally without switching to another font) and figuring out how to make emoji rendering consistent (might just be an issue with my setup but they look like shit in chrome). theyre small things tho so i probably won't announce those when they happen. or maybe i will. who can say....

thats all for now. it was bugging me not having those 2 pages up so hopefully now i'll be able to relax a bit. i hope so cos god knows i need it lol. see u next time :)
