yoo....
today i got a post thats not about this site. first official one. is it allowed?? maybe. its about an update to the "userstyle" i made a few years back for cleaning up all the shite on wikia/fandom wikis. this update removes some extra elements that i'd noticed on search pages1, and tweaks header formatting a bit so that the sign up/register buttons that appeared at some point don't overlap it. u can check it out here
i forget if i ever really talked about it anywhere before so i guess i'll give a little description of what the fuck it even is and why i made it. basically a few years back the "repentance" dlc for binding of isaac: rebirth dropped and i got crazy into it, which means i was checking the wiki a lot cos that game has like 1000000 items. now afaik there's no independent wiki for that game, so i was having to use the one on wikia/fandom2, and at first it was more or less fine since just having an ad blocker was enough to clear out most of the garbage and keep it usable. but a couple months later wikia rolled out some big style changes that made a lot of wikis hosted on it basically fucking unusable.
at that point i got soooo pissed off at it that i went and looked into how to unfuck it myself. i remembered hearing about stylus, a browser extension that lets u write stylesheets that apply to specific websites, so installed that and got to work hiding all the extra garbage wikia added and things kind of spiralled out of control until i'd made some fairly major adjustments to most pages on the site. all this so i could look up stuff about the game where u play as a naked baby shooting tears at piles of shit. it is what it is3.
anyway, once i was done i figured fuck it, i put in all this work, i might as well post it somewhere. so i just hit the "publish" button in stylus and it ended up on userstyles.world. i dont really get how the numbers on there work but i think people other than me use it? there havent been any major changes to wikia's css since then so i've not had to update it often, which is nice. besides, these days i use indie wiki buddy and breezewiki to avoid direct interaction with wikia sites completely, so it takes me a while to notice when they do add any extra garbage that skirts around my css....
thats about all i had 2 say about it. which means this post is OVER!! check it out if u want. or dont. im not ur boss lol
til next time,

idk when the name became "fandom" but i think they were kinda mid-way thru the rebrand at that point. either way its mostly just confusing to me (like. "fandom wiki"? u mean like a wiki run by the fans or...?) so it just kind of kept being "wikia" in my head. i'll be just calling it that for the rest of the post ↩

my situation was very different back then. lockdown + unemployment + untreated adhd did some shit to my brain i think. impossible to say if it was good or don't. ↩
